A "Fool" Day!

This picture has nothing to do with this post, but her face was so cute and although she still looks a lot like this, I miss the baby chub on her face. (it was taken about two years ago).
April 1st has never been appropriately celebrated at our house. There have been a few half hearted attempts at funny food but other than that I've been a lame mom. I've been in a boring Mommy funk since Christmas and decided to get my act together and lighten up our moody household a little. I was too busy giggling to take pictures but here's the non-illustrated version of our day.

It started the night before when I moved each child to a bed of one of their siblings. I was crossing my fingers that they would sleep through the night and wake up in the morning in the wrong bed. Since sleeping through the night doesn't happen at our house these days the confusion was realized in the middle of the night, but it was still pretty darn funny. I also rearranged all of the clothes so they were in different drawers/shelves/closets.

Breakfast was cold cereal - already in their bowls but when I added milk each bowl turned a different color. This led to quite the discussion as did the pre-sliced bananas which were a lot of work, but very funny.

We all wore our clothes backwards (except Daddy) and I made a fake "spill" (a cup full of brown elmers glue with a spoon attached) and left it on Daddy's bed. I rearranged his drawers too and pinned all his underwear bottoms together.

Then to work where Daddy had three new patients scheduled: Ima Dorck, Verie Sillee, and Alf Orfun. None of them showed? For lunch we took a picnic to the park (it was SUCH a beautiful day). We had apples (with gummy worms shoved through them), inside out sandwiches (the bread was in the middle) and the cookies and juice boxes were carefully sealed inside the snack sized chip bags. The kids loved it.

Things were more normal until dinner where we had a round robin affair. When we sat down to the table each child got a heaping plate full of one thing (Kabe got a giant plate of salad, Ayvri fruit salad, Ksenya and Mom got spaghetti and Dad got bread, Brigham just got a pitcher of water and a cup). Then we dug in. After about a minute I called out "switch" and we all passed our plates. After about 12 minutes Brigham had finally caught on and we were all full. That was the fastest dinner ever.

When Daddy went to the bathroom after dinner there was a fake poopy diaper on the floor (one of Darla's filled with raw eggs and sesame seeds). Then when he climbed into bed I had short-sheeted it and boy did it get him. Turns out he's never been short-sheeted before and it was a perfect finish to a very funny day!

Next year I'm gonna step up my game a little - I think I've found another great day to celebrate being silly!!!

p.s. if you want to see someone who is very creative every April Fool's check out the link to Clinton & Natalie - she's so clever and inspires me to be a more fun mom.

I love your dinner idea! So so funny! :)

I've also never been short-sheeted. I don't even know how to do it.

I love April Fool's Day! :)
