This year for Halloween we had big plans for a full-family theme of Star Wars. Yes, there would have been Yoda and Ewoks and a dozen other cool creations but truth is, we ran out of time and it just wasn't a priority. There's something my kids will repeat over and over as they recall their childhood, "Yep, my that just wasn't a priority for my Mom". Still, I think that our last minute makeovers turned out pretty darned cute. I learned a good lesson though - face paint is not in our future, it was a nightmare and I think I was more green at the end of the night than our little man was and Ksenya was totally freaked out about her green hair.
Cast of characters in all their weird glory (make a weird face guys). Little bear (sorry excuse for dressing up the baby who doesn't care and is going to sleep all night anyway). The wicked witch of the west (apple doesn't fall too far from the tree huh?), The frog (to go with his princess, thank heavens we already had this one and it was warm although the bruiser is getting so big the legs were a little short but it went nice with his cowboy boots), the Mummy (totally his idea and a royal pain, it kept falling off of him all day until finally I wrapped him really tight and told him he couldn't pee until he wanted to take it off for good, worked ok after that :), and of course, the princess. Someday she won't want to be a princess anymore, and then I'll cry.
This year we continued our tradition of going to the pumpkin patch to pick out our carving pumpkins (which are still sitting on the hearth waiting to be carved, again, priorities). We learned an important lesson about the difference between a suburban pumpkin patch and a country patch and I gotta say, the country patch ROCKED! We rode a hay wagon out to the field where the pumpkins were still attached to the vine and we hunted around for ever trying to find the perfect one. I had to laugh because when we started they were all so different, gourds and stripes and bumps and strange shapes. By the time we were done hunting however, 6 of our 7 pumpkins were all perfectly round with beautiful stems and smooth orange skin. Can you guess whose was different?
We also got to go to our first ward activity and it was wonderfully fun. Oh, and don't tell the kids but I'm saving their candy for Christmas, which is, I think the perfect solution to the too-much-candy problem.

I put away at least half of their candy every year. So, your secret is safe with me!
I love little Ayvri with her hands on her hips! what a princess!
