Memorable Merriment

More Christmas crafting coming your way!I've always wanted a wreath made of bulbs. This year I made one with some ornaments we bought at last year's after Christmas sale (like $1). I thought it was beautiful, but the glue didn't hold great and we heard one fall and shatter in the middle of the night. Still, it was very glamourous and sparkly and if it lives to see next year I think I'll still like it then.
This is a story of a boy and a girl who were a bit homesick this year so they headed in the direction of what they thought was the nearest mountain to find some pine trees and gather branches and cones for a wreath. 2 hours later of driving through fairly desolate country they finally found a very primitive very steep road up to one giant ponderosa pine. Although they were in a minivan and it had been snowing they climbed the treacherous slope and slid to a frightening stop in the middle of the road next to the tree. The girl jumped out, chiseled a few branches from bottom most limbs of the giant tree and scavenged for two sad little pine cones. They got back in their minivan and made a 210 point turn around and slid down the mountain to the highway. The long drive home was slightly less than exuberant as they thought about the time and gas money they had just spent. As they pulled back into their driveway the boy pronounced, "I'm sure glad we have a pine tree in our front yard". This wreath is the sad evidence of what I know will eventually be a great memory for us.
This is one of my favorite ornaments. They are super easy to crochet and then you pin and starch them. I made these several years ago but they were really dirty and I haven't used them in a couple years so we pulled them out and washed and re-starched them. I love how delicate they are.
We made these cinnamon dough ornaments thanks to my Sister. The recipe is super easy - 1 part applesauce, 3 parts cinnamon. Then we rolled them out, cut them and baked them until they were hard. They smelled great for a few days but that wore off. The kids thought this was a fun project and it was so cheap that I won't cry when they break.
