We needed a date - badly. So I arranged for a sitter and we got the kids dropped off after an incredibly hectic day. I stunk but was determined to make the most of my child-free time. We got back in the car and Tyler headed purposefully down the road. "Great!" I thought, "He's making the plans tonight". He drove us straight home. "Let's get cleaned up so we feel like we're on a date ok?"YAY! A shower! A shower without kids running in and out of the bathroom? I shower without having to listen for screams? A shower?
15 minutes later I left the house feeling like a hot mama with the most handsome man on earth (seriously - he is so handsome and I really am liking his beard).
We needed dinner, but where? We contemplated the same old thing and then thought, nah - let's just get a sandwich and find a park somewhere. Then we remembered a japanese restaurant that we've wanted to go to - so we drove past. I chickened out. I used to be so adventurous . . so daring, I'd do it just for the sake of being bold. So I told Ty to turn around and take us back.
Tyler has never had sushi. I have, but haven't ever ordered for myself. We browsed the menu for quite a while and asked a lot of questions. We enjoyed watching the hibachi chef (the guy who throws knives and makes 5 foot flames) and practicing with our chopsticks (which we both abandoned).
The food came and we were both a little uncertain but it was fantastic. So very yummy and it was exciting to try something new! I really enjoyed watching Tyler tear up over the wasabi (it was SOOO hot!).
In all I was reminded how very much in love I am with my good husband, how fun it is to try something new, and how wonderful the unexpected and spontaneous can be. Now we've set a goal that each time we're lucky enough to get a date - we'll try something new! I highly recommend it!

Good for you two!
Dates are the best!
Sounds wonderful and I'm jealous! Glad you remembered the excitement that comes from simple little differences in our lives, instead of doing the same old thing every time!

I'm glad that your date night was fabulous! And that you got to try some new things.
