Spring has Sprung

It's official - spring has sprung here in Texas and so to celebrate I wanted to plant something! Thanks to a new friend from Freecycle (if you don't have one, create one!!!) I got a whole bunch of dirts and plants and Saturday the kids and I spent the entire day outside working our little fingers to the bone, getting dirty, and getting much needed sunshine and fresh air! This is my garden spot - where the veggies will eventually go (we're not quite ready for those yet) . . . but it it's al tilled up and marked off for when the time comes.
These are the seeds we planted for both the pea plants and the poppy's. I just love poppy's! They're incredible flowers. The verdict is still out on whether anything is going to pop out of the dirt in these egg cartons or not.
This is a flower bed I made with some wood Ty cut off our trees. There are two iris plants and some blue and purple sylvia. (since taking this picture the dogs have eaten one of the irises).
This cute little naked sculpture was found under the plants in the front yard and placed on another remnant log meant for the fireplace. There are varigated canna lilies and some lovely lime green ground cover (at least it's supposed to be lime green, right now it looks mostly dead green).

We'll see what happens with yet another attempt at Texas growing. Tyler says it must be possible but it probably takes daily watering (ah - there's something I haven't tried yet) . . . so we're giving it a shot.

Look at you go girly! I am so in the mood to be outside too! (It snowed again so we are back inside.) Glad that you got your garden ready to go and had the fresh air to play in.

Wow looks like you've already got a healthy dose of spring fever! I have never ever been able to get poppies to grow here, so let me know if you succeed. And yeah, the daily watering is a definite plus if you want your plants to live past June. Can't wait to see how amazing it grows and how yummy it will be when its done. I have some organo and lemon balm I think I can root for you if you want.

The egg cartons work--according to Liz's class experiments where they planted seeds in egg cartons (but then they died in the other part of their experiment of watering them with chicken broth and ginger ale:o) Neato garden spots Toni!
