Big Foot had a Bad Day!

Brigham had a rough day yesterday. The poor little man was starving when we arrived at Dallas Urology Associates because they told me to arrive ready to feed him right before his appointment. I called twice to confirm this fact and so was holding him off until we got there (which means Mom was just a little uncomfortable too). After filling out paperwork I asked where I could discreetly feed him and they said, "oh he can't eat for at least an hour before". WHAT!!! The poor boy is starving. "Well, I don't know who told you that, but you'll have to wait until it's over to feed him or reschedule". Now I wasn't about ready to reschedule an appointment I'd waited a month for so my big little man just had to be hungry. They ushered us into a room and stripped him down, strapped him to a table and soaked him with a freezing sterilized something. Then they promptly left the room and left my screaming, cold, hungry pitiful little man tied there for at least 5 minutes (it felt more like 50). By the time they came back in they had to escort a crying mother into the hallway (they don't let you watch which had me pretty upset . . . not that I wanted to see it, but I didn't want to leave him). By this time the phrase "my cup runneth over" was a literal understatement! I finally got back in to get him dressed and had to tell about 8 nurses on the way out, "no - this is not my first" (it's like they think it gets easier watching your kids suffer the more you have). The icing on the cake of my little pity party day was that I had to pay for parking at the hospital and didn't know it so before I could bring my little guy home I had to search through the seats in the van to round up enough pennies (literally) to pay the lady at the booth (who just looked at my handful of change and asked, "Is that $2.00?").
Poor Brigham was in a lot of pain for the rest of the day and wouldn't eat or sleep as usual until about 2:00 p.m. (we went in at 8:30 a.m.). There is nothing more painful than to see your baby hurting and not be able to help! Finally last night he had regained his normal happy baby attitude and this is how I found him (I didn't even know this blanket had a hood) . . . I just couldn't resist getting down on the floor with him to take his picture he looked so peaceful (finally) and then I had to laugh when I saw his foot (it was dark in the room when I took the picture).

Everybody has an off week now and then and this has definitely been ours - I'm looking forward to Friday even more than usual!!!

I'm glad you clarified--I thought he was having some horrible issue tested. I can completely sympathize. We just got back from Joshua's checkup and immunizations and even that is enough to send me over the edge. I don't think I could have handled such a crazy circumstance with Brigham. Joshua's was in the hospital as a newborn and I missed it because I was in the shower when the pediatrician showed up--Kade was there, but I think the procedure was far less painful and traumatic as poor Brigham's. Poor little man (and his momma too)!

I've had four boys and four of those procedures. I've never been able to watch, and I also sat in the hall and cried...through all four! Poor Big Foot! I loved the picture!

Wow you are a blogging fool, it is good though. I think it is great you are doing posts for your kids, what a great way to remember where they are at. Very nice for early voting, I have heard it is a really good thing! I have heard of the Baby Wise method, and actually asked my pediatrician and RN about it. They said it wasn't a good idea for Constance since she was a premie and her weight is so low right now. They said at 6 months I could try it if she still wasn't sleeping, but for now she really needs to eat during the night :( I am glad it is working for you though, totally jealous!

I can relate! It was hard when they came in the hospital room adn told me to "give up" my baby to get that same "test"...eek. I got sick to my stomach all of a sudden...then The Dr came in and asked J if he wanted to come in and observe. Justin just piped up and said, hey, I was going to anyway, whether you asked or not! lol (bossy lil thing) ;0) It was hard for me when they brought him back in he looked so tramatized. Justin was glad to be able to go in with him but it was so hard he said it was quite the "experience". I am glad I didn't watch, I can't stand seeing my babies in pain!!!

When will doctors understand the concept "mother knows best?" I swear if I can ever find a doctor who trusts my instincts I will never leave him! That is terrible! I am sorry you had such a rotton week, but guess what...it's saturday!

Poor little guy and poor mommy! What a day for the both of you. Why do hospitals charge for parking? Like we don't spend an arm and a leg just to be there! Jeez..
As a side note, I think there is a matching outfit and bib for that blanket ;)

Hey Toni! You might not have anymore baby boys, but if you're ever interested in learning about natural circumcision give me a holler. I learned about it from my mother-in-law whose midwife had taught her many years ago, and I used the method on my son successfully. It basically consists of pushing back the foreskin every diaper change from birth to about 4-5 months. This creates a natural circumcision and keeps the benefits of having a circumcision without the pain of the knifely procedure:o)! I'm glad to hear you survived the ordeal--and Brigham looks so sweet. Take care.

Love, Amb
