Waiting for Baby

This is what we do as we wait for Brother to arrive. Monday morning I had a sonogram and the little guy measured 7 lbs 14 oz. I was also dilated to a 5 and 90% effaced. The Dr. said he'd be surprised if I made it to my Thursday induction appointment and would also be surprised if he actually made it to the delivery he thought it would be so fast. After contracting every 3-5 minutes very strong and regular for 30 hours we headed to the hospital Monday night about 11:30 p.m.

This is where we were introduced to the nurse from Hell. Let me tell you what the scariest nurse on earth looks like . . . she's not huge or imposing, nope, she's about 4 1/2 feet tall and has fingers that are no more than 2 inches long. All women can imagine why this poses a problem when the little darling tries to check your cervix. Needless to say it was one of the most traumatic experiences of my entire life (and I've had my fair share). After checking me I think my body went into shock, all contractions stopped, I couldn't hardly walk and I felt like I'd been assaulted in the most brutal way. They watched me for an hour while I was tied to the bed and then I said, "I'm going home!" She decided she'd better check me again before I leave just in case I'd made progress. After a second and even more painful and harrowing experience in which she tried to force her elbow into my uterus (sorry for the graphic detail, I'm still not over it) . . . I half waddled, half limped to the car and Tyler brought me home. Seriously - it makes me afraid to go back to the hospital and determined not to return until the baby is crowning.

For the time being we are fine, we are at home "taking it easy" and trying to be patient on this little guy. I know he'll be worth it and I'm still happy with my decision to let it come on it's own, but we are getting a little weary around here and hoping he comes soon and quickly. Hopefully our next update will be a much more pleasant one!

OH MY HECK! I am so sorry that you had that experience...shouldn't they have a stipulation about OB nurses finger length prior to hiring them???? :) Thank you for sharing with me and I hope that he comes soon for you guys. I know that the waiting game can be tiresome for everyone, BUT well worth it! I love you. fs (can I say that on here?)

That sounds so horrible. Thanks for the update though. I have been checking your blog a few times a day for the last few days just wanting to make sure I don't miss the big event! Good luck we are thinking of you.

Okay, Okay, I know that I am supposed to be saying, I am so sorry about your traumatic experience, and I am but I am sorry that description is hilarious. I hope the coming days are much better for you. We will be praying for your comfort.

First of all, that picture of Tyler with the kids is adorable! What a sweet daddy. And second, I CRACK up every time I read your blog because your descriptions of things are hilarious! P.S. I think My nurse must have moved to your hospital because that same little "nurse from hell" checked me for 14 hours straight when I had Kambree. Makes you wanna punch 'em right in the face!! Can't wait to read about little one's arrival!!! Keep us updated!

I know it was horrible, but I am crying from laughing. (It's jsut your way of describing it.) I hope you can laugh about it someday, too! I can laugh now about the nurse with the two inch nails that attended Derek's delivery...

So sorry... I would say next time you go in you have every right to request a different nurse! With all the great ones out there it stinks to get the scary one! (Seriously.. mine snuck in milkshakes for me and watched American Idol with me when Dan had to go home at night!)

Ok, I am not even going to laugh at your experience because I know the second I do it will come back to haunt me!!! Sounds like things are getting close though.....keep us updated! Good luck!

Oh Toni, that sucks. I cringed as I read that, remembering my nurses finger nails this last go round. My whole body tensed up every time she came near me. You make sure to ask for a different nurse if she's there when you go into labor! As if child birth isn't traumatic enough on your body! You don't need to be dealing with that! Good luck! I'll be checking in frequently!

Oh, I am so sorry! That is horrible! I actually crossed my legs when I read about your "darling nurse!" I once had a nurse that had eagle talons instead of fingernails. Then there was another tiny little nurse who cound have shoved her fingers all the way out my nose if she had only gone another inch...ugh!

Well, I hope you don't have to wait too long for this little guy to come! Good luck!

Here are some all inspiring words from your brother "suck it up" as he sits there laughing ever so sligly. Those are the words that he shared with me in my tramatic moments. Got to love those great nurses hehe.

Toni,

I am sorry that you had such a bad experience. Was that at Medical Center of Lewisville? If so I had my share of bad nurses in L & D there. The one that enduce me on Sunday night could not figure out where to check me. I had to give her directions cuz she keep poking in the wrong place. The one that helped me with Annabelle's Delivery was Nancy. She was in the day shift. There is another one I can't remember her name but she was in the Air Force. She was also great. Don't get Georgia. She was horrible with me. Heather is also great in L & D.

I wish you the best and keep us posted on your delivery.

Oh, girl! I feel your pain. Maybe it hit a little too close to home. I've had my share of ridiculous nurses, but was fortunately blessed with an amazing one this time who kept me from going into shock with Joshua. Good luck--we are praying for you and hope all goes well.
