"Happiness is Packing the Right Load"

Today we had a rare chance to sit in a meeting with one of the Twelve Apostles, Elder David A. Bednar. He was very humorous and down-to-earth and gave some amazing council! Here are the high points (for me).

* Happiness is not the absence of a load, happiness is packing the right load that gives you spiritual traction and knowing that you don't have to do it alone.

* "I don't have enough time" is nothing but an excuse. What you're really saying is "It's not as important as other things I do".

* Do not use your education as an excuse to make the gospel a lesser priority.

* The lessons you teach in FHE and family scripture study are not the only thing you're teaching. You are teaching the importance of the Lord in your lives by simply having them consistently, that is the lesson your children are learning.

I was so thankful when we got home that Ksenya actually heard some of his talk and told us the whole story of the "Truck" beautifully. When we asked them what we should put in our truck, both Kabe and Ksenya gave us a great list, "FHE, scripture study, be nice to other people, say our prayers, not fight, share our toys, say nice words . . . and of course WOOD!"

I know that we have living prophets and that their council is truly inspired. This made me so excited for conference! President Uchtdorf, Elder Nelson and Elder Bednar were all in our area this weekend . . . and the hurrican missed us (coincidence?). We are truly blessed!

That's so awesome Toni! I love listening to our Prophets & Apostles speak, and can't wait for General Conference.

I met Elder Bednar the night that Cade and I were engaged, and you know the advice he gave us? "Feed your kids ice cream." He told us about how his daughters in law had told him not to let the babies have ice cream, and there he was feeding a newborn some good ol' vanilla. He said, "You know what happened? The kids were fine! And they were happy!" lol.

Thanks for sharing!

I love how you put the picture of Elder Bednar with your post. I'm stealing your idea!

What a great opportunity! It's so nice to be in the presence of the prophet and apostles. I too am getting so excited for General Conference. It's one of the few moments when I'm glad time flies by quickly--when it's time for General Conference again.

I think we heard a similar talk when Elder Bednar came to our regional conference a few years ago-I am sure there are differences but he told the truck story. He is amazing! I am so thankful the hurricane missed you!
