Ringing in the New Year is always different at our house . . . despite my constant desire to come up with "good" traditions - there are very few constants in this holiday so far.
So that's pretty much what we did. We have for the last several years had "chinese" on New Years and did so again this year with terriyaki stir fry and egg rolls.
It's the fortune cookies that are important though - something appropriate about opening a fortune on the first day of the year and it's amazing how fitting they almost always are.
For example, this year Tyler and I got the same fortune on the first round "Spur of the moment decision brings surprising result." We went for round two and again, terribly fitting: Tyler's said, "You have much to offer, let others know." and mine was, "your mind is quick and your memory is good." Who knows what 2011 holds for our family . . . watch and see!
