30 Things

Today, since some handsome man I know is 30 I did this:Homemade sushi (thanks to Ken's rockin' tutorial) . . . I call it the "Idaho roll" :)
Doesn't he look mature? This guy really hates public declarations of love. So instead I thought I'd give you a short list of 30 things he accomplished this year. There are so many more, but maybe this can just give him a quick reminder of what he's done with his 30th year.

1. You built a fire and kept us warm in January when the furnace broke.
2. You had a big wrestling match with our kids on Vday and let them all pile on top of you.
3. You taught our kids how to fly a kite on one of your days off.
4. You spent so many hours as the ward clerk learning your calling and magnifying it.
5. You used your Dr. skills to listen for Darla's heart beat almost every night for a week until we heard it because you know how anxious I was for that sound.
6. You were incredibly patient as you worked with Kabe in his first ever sports experience.
7. You helped me to carry out my Relief Society activities even with a million other things going on and kept our family going while I made lots and lots of visits.
8. You barbecued over and over without complaint so I wouldn't have to cook when I was morning sick.
9. You took me to a dance and twirled me around the floor even though people were watching and you hate being the center of attention.
10. You called me 2-3 times every day while you were in Mexico for the summer.
11. You saw your kids almost every day even when you lived in a different country and they never doubted they are a priority in your life.
12. You visited the temple in Dallas, Mexico City, Denver, St. George and Boise and maintained a temple recommend.
13. You moved our family across states twice, doing a lot of the loading, lifting, moving and driving yourself.
14. You helped our parents with a dozen projects, including a massive cinderblock wall. Lot's of sweat and no complaints.
15. You spent a lot of time in airports to be able to visit home and honored your commitments to the Study Abroad program when others encouraged you to be dishonest.
16. You took us all camping and taught the kids about fire, critters and tents. And you weren't grumpy with me when I was too pregnant to want to spend another night.
17. You passed part IV boards with flying colors despite the fact that you didn't have any time to study at all (remember we moved the week before the test?)
18. You nearly blew yourself up lighting fireworks and were a great example to your associates of integrity during a few hard situations.
19. You graduated from Parker College of Chiropractic as a Doctor!!!
20. You earned 2 Bachelor's degrees.
21. You licensed in 2 states to practice as a Doctor of Chiropractic.
22. You played an integral part in the labor and delivery of our 5th baby. Without that adjustment I know her birth would have been very different.
23. You cut the cord - for the FIRST time!
24. You took our little family to your childhood home and showed us around - making a memory with our kids playing in the river just like old times.
25. Spent a week visiting the beautiful scenic sites of Southern Utah with a dear friend and our family, hiking and remembering what an amazing place we grew up in. 4 National parks in all.
25. You exercised the Priesthood in various ways, most memorable for me in a Father's blessing back in Texas and in blessing Darla.
26. You worked night and day to remodel a prehistoric building until it's a beautiful clinic.
27. You bravely started a business right out of school and have given it 200%.
28. You used your skills to build and reupholster your own chiropractic tables.
29. You performed countless automotive repairs despite the fact that you hate doing mechanic work.
30. You teach your children by the way that you live that God is the most important part of your life and that no matter what, you will do His will and you love and care for your wife in a way that shows your sons and daughters how a marriage covenant can and should work.

Happy Birthday Tyler - here's to another amazing year by your side!
