Do you know Fred?

All my life Fred has wreaked havoc on hair in the middle of the night. Apparently - I have a little of Fred in me and so does my daughter. Ksenya decided to take matters into her own hands the other day and cut the elastics out of her hair.
This is what she looked like when I told her that we'd have to cut it because of the huge chunks she'd taken out of the back. She was concerned she'd look like a boy and totally freaked when I picked up the scissors.

Then I did this! Oh my goodness! I don't know what happened and I have no excuse - I completely butchered her hair and started to panic! I was somewhere between giggling and bawling and had to leave the room lest she see my face.
At that point - she started into hysterics of a different sort - giggling uncontrollably. She was literally shaking on the floor she was laughing so hard. This is when I called Julie to save the day. Realize it was Saturday night and church was right around the corner. I was a mess.Julie came, she cut, she conquered! She's seriously the hero of the day and I was amazed at how great it turned out. My daughter is absolutely darling and I'll admit the short hair really suits her personality - she's been bouncing off the walls ever since and has to tell everyone about it.So - Fred lives to tell another tale and although it makes a great story - Ksenya and I have agreed that neither of us will touch her hair with scissors again . . . ever.

Oh, I love that story. Your writing is full of emotion and a strong sense of being ALIVE. That may not make sense to you, but (being surrounded with half-dead teenagers often) it is refreshing to listen to someone speak who pays attention to the details of each day--the beautiful, horrible, emotional details.
