Once we got into the "carnival" I realized that the crowd was giving me an anxiety attack -- too many people and all of them very worried about how much sugar they could procure for their kids. This is Kabe waiting in the cupcake walk - figures this would be the first (and only) activity they would choose.
Ksenya - ever timid in public situations, wouldn't even look up but kept her eyes firmly planted on the number in front of her (using the force to have them call her number).
Here's Ayvri. Her "hunt" was first and she got one egg - all the other kids have obviously been trained for this competition as there was a wave of children and they left nothing in their wake. I'm surprised she wasn't trampled. I don't think you can really call it a hunt anyway since they just dump garbage bags full of plastic eggs out on an open field of grass and then turn the kids loose.
Ksenya has been to a few more of these and has learned you have to be assertive. She also has terrible sense of direction and when all the eggs were gone she stood out in the middle of the field looking quite dazed and confused. I tried to shout but there was too much going on - finally I had to send Kabe to retrieve her.
Kabe set his goals and met them. He decided since Ayvri only got one egg he only needed one so he marched out - picked it up and marched back, ignoring the other eggs and children in his path. I had to laugh that he insisted on wearing his "hoodie" because his head was cold.
Then we stood in line for 40 minutes (NOT exaggerating) to have our faces painted by a sweet, but highly unartistic teenage girl. I had the strong urge to sit down next to her and help, but didn't think the kids would appreciate it.I've learned my lesson and will create our own Easter fun from now on!
Oh - and Brig slept in the stroller the whole time.
